County Galway is located in the west of Ireland and is part of the province of Connacht. The county takes its name from the city of Galway.
Galway has a long history, with inhabitants being recorded here as far back as 5000BC, and it is home to a large Irish speaking region with all the schools within the Gaeltacht region using Irish as their teaching language.
As well as the main county several islands are also contained within the Galway district of administration.
Because of its west coast location Galway benefits from a climate influenced by the Gulf Stream which means that extremes of temperature are quite rare.

Travelling to or from Ireland? Don't forget the ferry! Not only does a ferry ride give you
the freedom of taking your own car but it provides a superb experience of travelling
by sea and exploring the coastline. With convenient routes between Holyhead and Dublin, or Pembroke and Rosslare, we recommend
Irish Ferries for great, low-cost, transport. They are the leading Irish ferry company and provide both an excellent service, and excellent prices.
